It has Europe’s largest shopping centre and is home to one of the country’s biggest television centres. Connected via three Underground and Overground options and exceptional schools nearby, White City can’t get any more convenient to live in. But space changes everything, and sometimes it can compromise our choice of neighbourhood. However, it doesn’t have to be anymore. Loft Conversions White City are redefining spaces so you can stay put in the places you love. Make it happen with superior designs and quality craftsmanship.

A loft conversion is a home improvement that transforms the unused loft space into a functional living space. It is a popular way to maximise the available space in a property without expanding its footprint. You can convert the attic space into an extra bedroom, a home office, a playroom, a gym, or any other usable living area. The process usually involves extending the roof upwards, insulating, installing flooring, installing windows/ skylights, and adding stairs for access.

Rooflight Loft Conversion – also known as a Velux conversion, it doesn’t involve making any structural changes to the roof. Rooflights get added for natural light and ventilation.

Dormer Loft Conversion – this conversion type extends the existing roof upwards for extra headroom. The new roof can be either flat or pitched. It provides more usable space with dormer windows.

Hip-to-Gable Conversion – ideal for properties with hipped roofs, it replaces the gable wall with a vertical wall to create more internal head height and usable floor space.

Mansard Loft Conversion – involves significant structural changes to the roof that result in a near-vertical wall with an almost-flat top. This type of loft conversion creates a generous space that accommodates multiple rooms. The style and spaciousness of Mansards make it a popular choice in urban areas.

L-shaped Loft Conversion – a beneficial design for Victorian properties with an outrigger at the rear, this conversion type joins two dormers in an L-shape. One dormer sits on the rear outrigger, the other on the main roof. It’s a great way to maximise space in mid-terrace properties.

The cost of loft conversions in White City depends on the type, size, and design features involved. These are the basic costs for each type.

Room in the roof conversion (basic) –  £35,000

Dormer loft extension – £50,000

Mansard extension – £60,000 – £65,000

Hip-to-gable extension – £65,000

L-shaped extension – £65,000 – £75,000

If you’re considering a loft conversion in White City, it’s important to keep in mind that only professional additions can improve the value of your home. Anything else can do the opposite. Building extra space in your home requires adherence to building regulations. Correct assessments are necessary to determine whether your plans are within permitted development rights, and some conversions will need planning permission. To safeguard the structural integrity of your home and the new addition, you will need the expertise of a structural engineer. A loft conversion company will look into all aspects that need consideration and help you create stylish living spaces that integrate into existing architecture seamlessly.

We have years of experience in Victorian and 1930s loft conversions in London. Our architects employ contemporary, space-maximising, and bespoke designs to transform loft spaces of all sizes. We tailor plans that align with your preferences, lifestyle, and requirements. 3D models developed using the latest VR technology offer our clients a lived visual experience of the designs.

There are no lengthy contracts you have to commit to, ensuring flexibility throughout the entire process. Our design phase comes in a separate contract, and you only sign the contract if you are satisfied with the designs and ready to proceed. Well-versed in period architecture, we make it our job to handle all the pesky paperwork, such as planning permission, method statements, party wall agreements, and building control applications. You can count on our project management services dedicated to each project from conception to completion.

The cost of loft conversions largely depends on the conversion style and size. Design features and materials used also determine the price. Generally, simpler designs and smaller floor areas have lower costs. However, each property has unique characteristics that make one type of conversion more suitable than others. Choosing a design that maximises space and value will give you a better return on investment.

We specialise in loft conversions and extensions for Victorian and 1930s homes across London. Our experienced architects create innovative designs tailored to your needs, preferences, and lifestyle. These designs aim at maximising both space and aesthetics. We handle all legal pre-build requirements, including planning permission, Third Party Wall Agreements, method statements, and Thames Water build-over Agreements with assistance from our planning experts and structural engineers. Our team works with local authorities and external suppliers. Good Design & Build products come with insurance-backed warranties. Each project is assigned a dedicated project manager to ensure timely completion and consistent quality. We prioritise meeting our deadlines efficiently while maintaining strict standards of excellence across the board, from start to finish.

In most cases, loft conversions fall under permitted development rights and do not require planning permission. However, there are certain instances where planning permission is necessary. We submit planning applications on your behalf. Our detailed understanding of the latest local planning guidelines has secured us a successful track record.

How we deliver projects

Our process is simple and divided into two distinct phases with separate contracts: Design and Build. As a client you only commit to one phase at a time depending on what stage of the process you are in. Each phase consists of three stages as described below.

1. Design

This is the kick-off point for your project. We carry out a complete architectural measured survey of the property. This allows us to create accurate CAD design drawings. This is followed by a design meeting to start discussing your ideas in more detail.

2. Planning

At this stage we finalise the designs with you and start preparing planning applications as needed. We place a high priority on ensuring that plans, designs and schedules are all based on a thorough and detailed understanding of planning guidelines. We co-ordinate with local authorities until the decision is made, and the planning approval is secured.

3. Technical

Once the planning consent is secured, we translate the design drawings into more detailed technical drawings for the purposes of building control and construction. This also includes specifications and structural calculations. At this stage, we will also submit to you our ‘no obligation’ quote for the build phase.

4. Pre-build

90% of our clients decide to stick with us after the design phase is completed. Once the build contract is signed, we kick off the process by making sure all the pre-build processes are complete. These include assistance with party wall agreements, Thames Water build over agreement, submitting building control application, and preparing method statements etc as needed. This stage ends with a pre-start meeting with your foreman before the actual build begins.

5. Build

One of our foremen will be dedicated to your project and will be on-site to manage everyday works. Our project managers will be overseeing the works to make sure they are completed to high standards, within your budget and on time. Throughout the process we will keep you updated with the progress and coordinate the works with third parties such as kitchen or flooring suppliers. We will also advise and guide you to choose any suppliers if needed.

6. Handover

As the build draws to finish, we will help to iron out any ‘snags’ to make sure everything is completed to your satisfaction. We will put together all necessary certificates such as gas, electricity and building control completion along with warranties for glazing, boiler etc. At the final completion meeting, we will hand you these documents, together with the keys to your house. Needless to say, you can contact us any time after this, if you want us to look at something.
